The 15th edition of the Festival Rock Oz’Arènes closes with a positive result. During 5 days a total of 35’000 persons gathered in the roman amphitheatre of Avenches. Tuesday, August 15th was completely sold out and the other days reached very appealing figures. On the operational side, the festival was held without any problems. The spirit during all five days was very relaxed and even the weather showed itself from a merciful side after very bad forecasts.

Who would have thought after the first edition of Rock Oz’Arènes in 1992, that this baby will grow so fast an become such a healthy and vital teenager? The 14th edition of Rock Oz’Arènes was once again a huge success story. Over 29'000 people gathered in Avenches during the four nights of the festival. It all started with the long awaited performance of the superstar Marilyn Manson who played a terrific gig. Thursday, August 18th will be forever statued in the history of the event. British new-wave idols The Cure celebrated a dull ambience over two hours in front of an admiring and happy crowd. With performances of Sean Paul, Asian Dub Foundation, Le Peuple de l’Herbe and Stress, the Friday united thousands of fans of groovy sounds in the arena. The festival ended on Saturday with concerts of French artist De Palmas, German dancehall-stars Seeed and Arabic rocker Rachid Taha.

On the opening night, three legends performed at Rock Oz'Arènes: Lou Reed, Nina Hagen and Jane Birkin. Three different cultural backgrounds, three stiles but the same generation opened this year's festival. With concerts of Massive Attack, The Dandy Warhols and dEUS on the mainstage, the second night was much more modern. Friday the 13th was a lucky day: The Offspring, Bloodhound Gang and Pleymo rocked a sold out house. The 2004 edition of Rock Oz'Arènes ended with performances of Simple Minds, Corneille, Popa Chubby and Sinsemilia.

Once again, the festival brakes its records and hosts 31'000 people during four nights. Deep Purple celebrate their evergreens with the crowd. Placebo play the festival for the 2nd time and Beck leaves the public speechless with his breathtaking performance. Sum 41 take care of a new generation of Punk Rock fans and the singer of the french band Dionysos takes an already legendary bath in the crowd. The festival ends with an over two hour performance of Manu Chao and his Radio Bemba Sound System.

With the introduction of a fourth night, the 11th edition of Rock Oz'Arènes brought a deciding innovation to the festival. The idea of a preconcert seduced the public immediately. Joe Cocker gave a memorable performance in the totally sold out amphitheatre of Aveneches. Two more days were sold out and the festival hosted a total of 29'000 people during four days. To complete 4 marvellous festival days, the weather showed itself from its most sunny side. It is almost unnecessary to state that Rock Oz'Arènes 2002 was a total success.

The infrastructure has to be changed. The main stage is turned 90 degrees and finds its new place in front of the tower of the arena. With this changement, the festival raises its capacity and adds space for 2'000 fans and hosts now 8'000 people. The harvest of this restructuration is huge and the festival attracts 16'000 people this year.

The festival changes ist name for the last time and calls itself "Rock Oz'Arènes". It is happening in the middle of August and is only offering a musical program to ist audience. Instead of "Cabaret"-performances, the organizers set up a second stage on the Casino-square. This new formula works fine and attracts 5'700 people.

A new team with new ambitions is taking over the festival, which was renamed "Rire & Rock". The happening is taking place on the 30th and 31st of July and is a kind of hybrid event between rock music and "cabaret". Thanks to the performance of electronic avantguard geniuses "Young Gods" the festival makes 2'000 entries and a small benefit.

Rock Oz'Arènes is happening for the first time on 29th August 1992. From 2 p.m. to 1 a.m., a bunch of Swiss artists perform in the roman amphitheatre of Avenches. The festival which has close relations to the humanitarian organization "Terre des Hommes" was held as a benefit event. 730 people gathered together that day and the festival made zero profit. The organizer pays a symbolic amount of money to "Terre des Hommes".
